Pumba is a domesticated caracal who lives with his owners in Latvia. He was adopted as a three-month-old kitten and is now five years old. In Latvia, it is legal to keep caracals at home.
Pumba enjoys a pampered life and is well-cared for by his owners. He is fed three times a day and enjoys spending time with his two feline companions, a Maine Coon and a British Shorthair.
Caracals, also known as “African lynx”, are a wild cat species known for their striking appearance and distinctive behaviors. However, Pumba is described as being very kind by his owners, even though he often hisses at them, according to a Facebook post. This is a normal behavior for caracals, and it is not always a sign of negative emotions.
The main challenge for Pumba’s owners is preventing him from escaping, as he has wandered off before and got lost. They also have to keep him indoors during winter when the lake freezes over, as he might attempt to cross it and leave their property.
Pumba is described as a very kind animal who does not like to be alone and will even vocalize when feeling lonely. He is considered a full member of his human family.
